Villa and Valencia keeping tabs on Malaga midfielder

Aston Villa and Valencia are believed to be keen on Malaga midfielder Apono, according to reports in Spain. The 25-year-old has been a revelation for Antonio Tapia's side this season, scoring nine goals as they continue to push for a European spot. However, it is understood that he could be lured away from La Rosaleda should a suitable bid be forthcoming. An offer of around €6million (£5.3m) is believed to be enough to tempt Malaga into a sale. Aston Villa will be keen to invest over the summer as they look to build on a productive 2008/09 campaign, while Valencia have been assured that money will be made available should they qualify for the UEFA Champions League. Apono is currently contracted to Malaga for another two years, but he admits he may not be around to see out that contract. "I do not know anything about this news, but if someone pays the money for me then I will offer all I can on the field," he said.
