Striker gets green light after loan switch to Birmingham

Birmingham striker Carlos Costly can get his Blues career under way after receiving international clearance. The 6ft 3in Honduran frontman has joined the Championship high-fliers from Polish side GKS Belchatow on loan until the end of the season. Blues boss Alex McLeish now hopes the 26-year-old will get his fitness up quickly and start knocking in the goals to help his side get back into the Premier League. He told the club's official website: "I'm pleased we've got through the red tape and that all the administration side of things is sorted.

Hard work

"I'd like to thank our club secretary Julia Shelton for all her hard work in dealing with the relevant authorities and tying everything up. "I'm now looking forward to welcoming Carlos to the fold and putting him on a crash course with our sports science team to build up his match fitness. "The aim is to have Carlos available for selection as soon as possible." Costly finished as the top scorer in the Honduras Apertura in the 2006/07 season with 10 goals for Club Deportivo Platense. This led to his move to Poland, where he scored 11 goals in 37 appearances for Belchatow, while he has also netted six goals in 22 appearances for the Honduran national team.
