FC Utrecht have signed former Ajax defender Vito Wormgoor on a two-year deal.
The 19-year-old's contract was cancelled at Amsterdam Arena and Utrecht moved quickly to reinforce their rearguard.
An option to add an extra two years to Wormgoor's contract exists, if he impresses at Nieuw Galgewaard.
Utrecht technical director Piet Buter is delighted to have secured the youngster after a number of clubs showed an interest.
"We really see him as a player who makes us better, as a central defender or as a defensive midfielder," Buter told Dutch media.
"He is a young kid with a big future."
Meanwhile, Utrecht have signed 27-year-old midfielder Simon Cziommer on a season-long loan from AZ Alkmaar.
"Simon can fill a vacancy in midfield," added Buter.
