Van Basten begins summer clearout

Marco van Basten will allow six members of his first-team squad to leave this summer. The Ajax boss, who took charge of the club after stepping down from the Dutch national team post at the end of Euro 2008, is still running the rule over the players he has at his disposal. However, he has already come to the conclusion that he can cope without the services of Albert Luque, Michael Krohn-Dehli, Edgar Manucharyan, Robbert Schilder, Nicolae Mitea and Leonardo. The six players have been told that they are free to begin searching for new clubs as they no longer figure in the manager's plans. The Amsterdam-based club are also prepared to let Mitchell Donald and Vurnon Anita leave on loan. "These eight players all know what the situation is," technical manager Danny Blind told AD Sportwereld. The legendary former defender also went on to state that Brazilian winger Leonardo would only be allowed to leave if a club met the valuation stipulated in his release clause.
