Midfielder happy to sign four-year contract to work with Flores

Real Madrid have sold midfielder Javier Angel Balboa to Portuguese giants Benfica. Balboa has signed a four-year contract with Benfica after struggling to make an impact in Bernd Schuster's plans at Santiago Bernabeu. The Equatorial Guinea international made his first-team debut for Real during the 2005/06 season and spent the following campaign on loan at Racing Santander. He made just 10 appearances for Real last term and is looking forward to the opportunity of playing on a regular basis with Benfica.

Motivated

"I am very motivated for this important challenge," Balboa, who plays on the right flank, told the club's official website. The 23-year-old worked with Benfica boss Quique Sanchez Flores while playing for Real's Under 20 team, and admits the presence of his former coach persuaded him to move to Lisbon. Balboa added: "The confidence he has in me is very important and helped me to decide."
