Brazilian defender makes Bundesliga switch

Hertha Berlin have signed Brazilian defender Kaka from Portuguese outfit Academica de Coimbra. The 27-year-old signed a four-year deal at the Olympiastadion on Thursday. The free remains undisclosed although it is believed the capital city club have paid around €2 million (£1.6million for his services. "We are delighted that in Kaka we have been able to sign an excellent player for our defensive line," the club's general manager Dieter Hoeness told their official website. "I am convinced that he will strengthen our rearguard." Kaka also expressed his joy at the move, describing the Bundesliga as "one of the best leagues in Europe." The Brazilian is Hertha's second signing of the summer following Hansa Rostock's Marc Stein as coach Lucien Favre attempts to build a squad capable of challenging for Europe following a disappointing showing this season.
