Striker intends to retire at the end of the season

Dion Dublin has rejected the chance to extend his playing career for a further year at Cambridge United. The veteran striker, currently at Norwich, will turn 39 next week and has made it clear that he plans to hang up his boots at the end of the season. He shot to prominence during a four-year spell at Abbey Stadium between 1988 and 1992, but has ruled out making a return. United manager Jimmy Quinn admits that he did his best to try and persuade the former England international to join the Blue Square Premier side, but was eventually forced to admit defeat. "I asked him but he's definitely going to retire at the end of the season." Quinn told Cambridge's official website. "I tried to get him on loan to the end of the season but he's got commitments to Norwich and he's totally made his mind up to go into media work."
