Striker damages ankle ligaments

Bayer Leverkusen have been rocked by the news that Dmitry Bulykin is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines. The Russian international striker had recently started to find his feet with the German club following a summer move from Dynamo Moscow and had grabbed three goals in eight appearances this season. Bulykin hobbled out of Bayer's 2-2 draw with Karlsruhe on Saturday with an ankle injury, which on further examination was then revealed to be ligament damage. It is unclear how long the front man will be out for, but he will definitely be forced to sit out Leverkusen's crucial games with Galatasary in the Uefa Cup on Thursday and the Bundesliga game with fellow European hopefuls Schalke at the weekend. The injury also comes as a blow to Bulykin's hopes of securing a new deal at BayArena, after only agreeing a one-year contract on his arrival.
