Veteran striker admits managerial interest

Dion Dublin has admitted he could change his plans over a move into management if he was offered the Norwich job. The veteran striker did not anticipate making the move from pitch to dugout, but the lure of the Carrow Road role could sway his opinion. The Championship side are still searching for a replacement for Peter Grant, who parted company with the club two weeks ago, and Dublin is tempted by the vacancy.

One chance

He told the Eastern Daily Press: "I feel as if I know what I can do to help the team, as a manager. "It wouldn't be a choice to go into management after football, not completely, but, saying that, if something comes along that you can't turn down, and something as big as a job like Norwich City comes along, you have to think about it very carefully and think, 'well, hold it a minute, do you have what it takes to get this team to where it wants to go?' I feel I have that. "If I was asked about doing the job I would have to think about it because a job like this might not come along in the whole of my career. "It is not a direction I would take, but you only get one chance now and again and if something comes along that is special, ie Man United or Celtic, you have got to grab it."
Appointment
And the club's board have moved to appease frustrated fans by insisting that they are well down the road of finding a successor for Grant. "We are closing in on an appointment," said chief executive Neil Doncaster. "We are now 16 days following Peter's departure and we are certainly closing in and we hope to be able to announce a new appointment in the near future. "I am not going to be drawn into speculation about names. The number of people who have applied and the number of people we are interested in has meant that to do a thorough job, to look very carefully at them and meet the people we need to, takes some time. "We had interviews last week, we had further interviews this week and we are now closing in on an appointment."
