Hertha Berlin midfielder Lucio is out for at least six months with a knee injury.
The Brazilian was hurt following a challenge with Peter Lovenkrands during Hertha's 1-0 defeat to Schalke on Friday.
Lucio, who only joined Hertha in the summer after playing for several clubs in his homeland, has already undergone surgery on the injury.
He is now likely to be sidelined until well into the New Year, according to Hertha team doctor Ulrich Schleicher.
"The operation was successful," Schleicher told German sport news agency SID.
"If everything goes well, he'll be out for six to nine months.
"Lucio has to be given all the time he needs to come back."
