Japan international Yuki Abe claims Heerenveen are trying to sign him during January's transfer window.

Heerenveen are looking to bolster their squad in the New Year and have purportedly targeted the JEF United midfielder.

Abe has suggested that the Dutch club are aiming to set up a deal to take him to De Eredivisie when the transfer window reopens.

But, with the World Cup on the horizon, Abe is wary about making the move to Europe before the finals in Germany.

The 24-year-old is concerned that, by heading to Heerenveen, he could lose his place in the Japan squad for the World Cup.

Abe's preference would be to join Heerenveen after the World Cup, but they are hoping to tempt the midfielder over next month.

Meanwhile, Heerenveen twins Henrico and Jeroen Drost have signed new contracts with the club.

Both players have committed themselves to the club until 2010, although Henrico is currently sidelined with a broken wrist.
