Montpellier were held for a 16th time this season as Bordeaux secured a 1-1 draw.

Montpellier were held for a 16th time this season as Bordeaux avoided defeat at the Stade de la Mosson for the first time in four years following a 1-1 draw. Les Girondins captain Henrique sent the visitors into a first-half lead with little under 25 minutes played to offer hopes of a first win in three for Francis Gillot's team. However, Vitorino Hilton's third goal of the season denied Bordeaux the chance of moving up to seventh in the table and claimed a vital point for La Paillade in their battle for Ligue 1 safety. Both sides had opportunities to open the scoring inside the opening 20 minutes but Andre Poko fired over when Gregory Sertic's corner fell to him six yards out before Remy Cabella's direct free-kick found the wall before harmlessly falling into the arms of Kevin Olimpa in the Bordeaux goal. Fans inside the Stade de la Mosson did not have to wait long for the opener, though, and it went the way of the visitors when Sertic's perfect delivery found an unmarked Henrique and the Bordeaux skipper powered a header beyond Geoffrey Jourdren for only his second of the season. Montpellier hit straight back and managed to claw themselves back into the game in similar fashion just 10 minutes later. Siaka Tiene took charge of a free-kick out on the right and the former PSG full-back's delivery found Hilton at the near post and, like his fellow Brazilian centre-back at the other end, he headed beyond Olimpa to level the scores. Les Girondins almost reclaimed the lead before the break when Nicolas Maurice-Belay danced his way into the box but Jourdren saved well to keep his effort out and Diego Rolan saw his follow-up hacked away by Tiene. The hosts wasted a great opportunity to take the lead early in the second half when Anthony Mounier intercepted Poko's short pass before playing Cabella in but, with just Olimpa to beat, the much-coveted playmaker could only poke wide on the stretch. Cabella continued to cause problems for the Bordeaux defence and the 24-year-old thought he had grabbed his 11th of the season after rounding Olimpa only for the linesman to cut short his celebrations. Montpellier continued to press for a winner with Mounier and Cabella at the centre of all their good work but, despite the former seeing two shots at goal countered, Rolland Courbis's side failed to unlock a resolute Bordeaux defence.
