Full-time: It's all over in Lyon. The French side will take a one goal lead out to Cyprus after a one-sided affair. You sense APOEL will take that and hope to upset the odds in the return leg.
First shot of the game from APOEL. Manduca cuts in from the right and Lloris is forced to tip the ball over the bar. Corner to APOEL but it comes to nothing.
Gourcuff slides the ball into the path off Briand but Kaka slides in to clear for a corner just as the Lyon man is about to pull the trigger.
Nice one-two from Gourcuff but he is just over-stretching when trying to claim the return pass and the move breaks down.
Good skill from Marcinho on the edge of the Lyon area but his pass to Morais is not good and the midfielder is forced to commit the foul.
Bastos cuts back onto his left and swings in a dangerous cross that Gourcuff just needs to glance towards goal. But the subsititute gets too much on it and it flies wide.
Chiotis pumps the kick long but Ailton cannot collect. APOEL back into their routine now and Lyon struggling to get in behind.
No signs of a change in strategy from the visitors but the crowd noise has increased and Lyon look determined to search for more goals.
Just when the reverse wingers has worked for Garde, the flaw in the plan is revealed as Bastos, clean through, attempts to engineer the ball onto his left foot when it was easier to hit it with his right and the ball skews into the side-netting.
The ball deflected off Jorge and loops over the keeper. Remi Garde switching his wingers has paid off.
Bastos - playing on the right flank in this second half - tries to thread in Reveillere on the overlap but the pass is just too strong.
Ederson thinks he's been fouled but the dramatic dive may have prevented him from getting the decision.
Lisandro attempts a through-ball but it is intercepted at APOEL break. Good possession for the visitors now.
Terrific ball from Sousa from the free-kick but nobody can get a touch and it is safely through to Lloris.
Ailton wins the flick-on but he's on his own up there. The ball breaks to Bastos and he plays a wonderful ball with the outside of his foot to put Ederson through on goal. He rounds Chiotis but Jorge's desperate lunge intercepts the ball as it rolls towards the empty net.
'Cyprus Football' has been in touch to say: "Their tactics are to counter attack and I think it's all about the last 20 minutes for APOEL to get something out of the game!"
Not sure what else Lyon can do here other than keep knocking on the door and hope the gaps will appear as the visitors tire.
Half-time: The referee blows up with APOEL about to take a free-kick. The away side are not happy about that but they'll be delighted with how that 45 minutes has gone. Lyon look threatening but have yet to find a way through.
Corner comes in from Lyon and the keeper is off his line grasping for the ball but misses. The ball is cleared, however.
Ailton manages to get a one-on-one with the last defender inside the box but cannot quite get away from his marker. That's the danger for the home side - they need to keep the back door shut.
Lacazette cuts in on his left foot and seems poised to score but fires over when given time to shoot.
Snap shot from Lisandro on his left foot is heading for the corner but is anticipated well by Chiotis.
The corner comes to nothing and APOEL are really up against it here. Plenty of last-ditch defending going on. Courageous stuff.
Another penalty shout for a shove in the box on Lisandro but he went down easily and Bastos' subsequent effort is tipped over the bar.
Lacazette is down but that looked a fair challenge, if a little strong. The crowd aren't enjoying the heavy tackling from the Cypriot side.
Jorge's clearance is intercepted by Lisandro but the forward is called for handball. His hands were raised.
Sensational turn from Ederson but then he delays the pass to Lacazette too long and his team-mate is offside.
Cris attempts a long ball to Bastos but the ball is cut out. APOEL have closed down the Brazilian winger much better after those difficult first few moments.
Lacazette has looked bright early on but he can't control the long pass this time and it's out for a throw.
Shot from Ederson in the right channel after good work by Lacazette but Chiotis holds onto the ball well.
Brilliant skill from Ederson to wriggle free of three markers but Lisandro then misplaces his pass when running at the defence.
Excellent one-two on the edge of the box and Lisandro is fouled. Chance for Lyon to get a shot on target here.
All Lyon in the early stages and the Cypriots may have to ride out a storm here. Another great cross from Bastos - four already - but it is cleared.
Another cross from the dangerous Bastos is cut out and the winger has earned a corner. The ball is swung in but comes to nothing.
Lyon get hold of the ball and Bastos' cross is just intercepted. Claims for a penalty are turned down but it looked as though Ederson was shoved there.
