Greenacre strike sinks Robins

Tranmere Rovers are back in the League One play-off positions following a crucial 2-1 win over Swindon. The Merseysiders began the day behind Brighton on goal difference but now lie in sixth, although The Seagulls have two games in hand. Rovers' opener on 12 minutes had an element of fortune to it, but manager Ronnie Moore will care not one iota. Shane Sherriff's through-ball found Steve Jennings, but it was only when Miguel Comminges' attempted clearance struck Jennings that the ball nestled in the net. One should have been two, but Sherriff somehow managed to fail to hit the target with a left-footed shot when unmarked at the back post. Tranmere did double their advantage before half time when Chris Greenacre's close-range effort was adjudged to have crossed the line on 40 minutes. The Robins pulled a goal back through Billy Paynter on 68 minutes to set up a grandstand finish, but Swindon were unable to grab a leveller.
