Paterson: Bagged a brace
Burnley proved far too strong for Derby during their Turf Moor contest, with the hosts easing to a 3-0 win.
Kevin McDonald and a Martin Paterson brace did the damage for the Clarets, helping to keep their promotion dreams alive.
Derby, meanwhile, looked lacklustre throughout and have now won only one of their last six Championship fixtures.
It took only five minutes for Burnley to break the deadlock with McDonald netting with a looping volley from the edge of the area.
Things then went from bad to worse for the visitors as they found themselves two goals down when Paterson, who scored two against Barnsley in midweek after coming off the bench, struck his 10th of the season.
After some sloppy defending from Derby, Chris Eagles picked up the loose ball on the right before crossing low to the near post where Paterson was waiting to flick the ball past Roy Carroll.
It was 3-0 in the 21st minute and Eagles was again the architect as he went on another good run down the right before sliding the ball back to Paterson on the edge of the six-yard box, and the former Scunthorpe striker calmly fired into the bottom.
Derby managed to stem the tide before the break but rarely threatened the Burnley goal with goalkeeper Brian Jensen a mere spectator for much of the first half.
Jewell introduced striker Nathan Ellington at half-time in an attempt to alter proceedings, but it was the hosts who went closest to extending their lead when Eagles sent a shot wide from the edge of the area.
Derby were unlucky not to have reduced the deficit on the hour mark when Miles Addison struck the post with a 25-yard drive.
Addison also shot over from close range moments later, while at the other end Carroll had to be at full stretch to keep out Robbie Blake's curling free kick.
