Fenerbahce maintained their unbeaten record in Group G with a comfortable 2-0 success over PSV Eindhoven in Istanbul.

The Turkish side were by far the better side throughout and their 2-0 lead at the interval was fully deserved and PSV never threatened to hit back at any point.

Fener took the lead on 30 minutes and it came after good work from former Sheffield United striker Colin Kazim-Richards.

Own goal

He took the ball down on the right edge of the box and fired across goal, where PSV youngster Dirk Marcellis could only turn the ball into his own net.

Moments later the home side's lead was doubled and it was a stunning move - with Brazilian maestro Alex the architect.

Alex picked up the ball and shrugged off two challenges, he found Semih Senturk 20-yards out and picked up the return before playing the ball back into the box for the striker to fire home at the near post past Heurelho Gomes.

Fener could easily have extended their lead before the interval, with Alex seeing an effort just over the bar and Marcellis somewhat fortunate not to convert another own goal as Gomes managed to scramble clear.

After the break PSV started better but they could not create a chance and it was Fener who again looked the most likely as Kazim-Richards - from the right edge of the box - this time found the target but Gomes was on hand to save well at full stretch.

No way through

With 25 minutes left PSV introduced their top-scorer Danny Koevermans, but he made little impact as Fener continued to threaten.

Gomes was on hand to keep the score at 2-0 as he tipped Semih's 25-yard drive around the post and then he could only watch as Alex headed over from five-yards with no PSV defender anywhere to be seen.

Marco Aurelio was next to try his luck for Fener and he managed to beat Gomes, but his fearsome drive flew just inches wide.

Koevermans then forced Volkan Demirel into his first save of the night five minutes from time when he looked to curl a ball into the corner but the Fener keeper tipped wide.

Fener are now four points ahead of PSV with just two games remaining, and the Turks will be very much looking for top-spot as they travel to leaders Internazionale - victors over CSKA Moscow in Milan - in two weeks just a point adrift of the Italians.
