Kingston breaks Well Hearts

Image: Kingston: Crucial goal

Laryea Kingston was the architect of Hearts' win as he scored the first and set up the second in a 2-0 win at Motherwell.

Midfielder at hub of away win

Laryea Kingston was the architect of Hearts' first SPL win of the season, as he scored the first and set up the second in a 2-0 win at Motherwell. The talented midfielder, who was at the hub of much of Hearts' best work, struck from the edge of the box midway through the first half and then set up Audrius Velicka to seal the win in injury time. Substitute Chris Porter had a number of chances to get Motherwell back into the contest but the young striker, who had previously done well for his new club, was off target. The home side, who otherwise have enjoyed an excellent start to the season, looked impressive in the early stages but it was the visitors that conjured the best chances. Calum Elliot had a header beaten away by Graeme Smith, before Audrius Ksanavicius went down under a David Clarkson challenge, only to have his penalty appeal turned away.

Classy Kingston

Kingston opened the scoring in the 24th minute when he burst on to a flick by Marius Zaliukas, following a long ball, and struck a low left-footed drive into the bottom corner. The home side were briefly rattled but they responded when Stephen Hughes shot straight at Steve Banks from the edge of the box and Steven McGarry headed a yard over. Well were dominant, and creating chances, but found themselves repeatedly frustrated by Ibrahim Tall's brilliant defending.

Missed chances

Porter missed a good chance with 10 minutes remaining when he headed over from eight yards following a corner, before being denied by an excellent save from Hearts keeper Banks. With the home side frustrated, Hearts confirmed the result when Velicka lifted the ball over Smith in the final stages, from Kingston's pass.
