Sheffield Wednesday's Chris Eagles ended his side's 634-minute wait for a goal to help earn The Owls three precious points with a 2-1 win at Burnley.

The Owls started positively and were immediately a goal to the good through Eagles who tapped home after Burnley failed to clear a low cross from John Hills.

Graham Branch headed wide as Burnley sought an equaliser but the hosts almost fell further behind when a cross from Eagles deflected off Jon Harley and came back off the post.

Wednesday did double their lead ten minutes after the interval when Graham Coughlan rose unmarked to score with a header from Chris Brunt's corner.

Burnley were desperately short of creativity and failed to create a serious chance until Garreth O'Connor was hauled down by goalkeeper Nicky Weaver inside the area.

O'Connor dusted himself down to dispatch the penalty underneath Weaver to set up a tense finale but the visitors held out.
