Goals either side of half time from Jonathon Douglas earned Leeds a 2-0 win over Hull to continue The Whites' pursuit of second-place Sheffield United.

The hosts were fortunate to take the lead in a first half shaded by the visitors for whom Craig Fagan saw a point-blank range shot saved by Neil Sullivan before the striker rattled the crossbar.

Leeds too had their chances, Robbie Blake spurning the clearest of these when one-on-one with Boaz Myhill, although credit must be due to the goalkeeper who pulled off a superb save from 12 yards.

Douglas did break the deadlock on the stroke of half time. His confident finish beating Myhill from the edge of the area after being teed up by Blake.

The Whites were more purposeful after the break and Cresswell was thrice denied before Douglas effectively made the game safe five minutes after the hour mark when he headed home from six yards.

Hull could not find a route to goal and the sides' first meeting for 16 years ended with Leeds taking the honours.
