Blades slip from the summit

Sheffield United slipped off their perch at the top of The Championship as they were forced to settle for a 0-0 draw at Wolves.

The Blades had held sway in The Championship since August, but Reading's fantastic run has seen The Royals replace them at the head of affairs.

Glenn Hoddle's Wolves have promotion aspirations of their own, but they were frustrated by an organised Blades outfit.

Chances were at a premium at Molineux, although Wolves keeper Stefan Postma did make an excellent stop to deny Neil Shipperley.

Keith Gillespie also tested the Dutchman's handling with a low drive, while at the other end Paddy Kenny was relatively untroubled until late on when a low shot from Vio Ganea was gathered by the Blades keeper.

The Blades were without key defenders Chris Morgan and David Unsworth, but a back-line marshalled by Phil Jagielka kept Wolves at arm's length.

Sheffield United boss Neil Warnock may have seen his side slip to second behind Reading in the table, but he was pleased to have emerged from a trip to The Black Country with a point.
