Stalemate at the KC

Hull City failed to capitalise on Southampton having only ten men for the entire second half as this match finished in a 1-1 draw.

Southampton were reduced to ten men on the stroke of half-time after Nigel Quashie was sent off just moments after Hull had equalised.

Quashie was given his marching orders after getting involved in a melee which also saw Matt Oakley and Jon Welsh receive bookings.

Southampton had started the brighter and opened the scoring after six minutes. Theo Walcott dribbled his way into the Hull box before cutting it back to Quashie who feigned to shoot before providing a lovely lay-off for Kamil Kosowski who finished well into the bottom right hand corner.

Southampton continued to dominate with both Walcott and Brett Ormerod going close for Harry Redknapp's men.

Hull managed to stay in touch and equalised against the run of play on the stroke of half time through Nick Barmby. The former England midfielder rifled home a right foot shot after a corner had caused confusion in the Saints penalty area.

Hull came out rejuvenated in the second-half but struggled to break down Southampton, who again went close through Walcott.

In the end both teams seemed to run out of ideas and a draw seemed the fair result.
