Struggling Brighton earned a valuable point away at Cardiff courtesy of a brilliant strike from substitute Colin Kazim-Richards.

Cardiff started the brighter, and Jason Koumas twice went close in the opening stages, but was denied first by keeper Alan Blayney and then by the post.

The Seagulls responded strongly though, and Leon Knight smashed a shot against the crossbar.

The game stretched from end to end, the only surprise being that it remained goalless until just before the hour mark, when Alan Lee opened the scoring for the home side.

Wales international Koumas controlled Joe Ledley's pass and raced forward, before playing the ball across goal for the dangerous Lee to slide in and apply the finishing touch (56).

The Bluebirds started to take full control, and Cameron Jerome nearly doubled their advantage with a fierce effort from distance.

They were to be stunned by a sensational equaliser though, as 19-year-old Kazim-Richards, who had only been on the pitch for three minutes, unleashed an unstoppable drive into the corner from 35 yards (76).

Cardiff pressed hard for a winner, but Brighton held on for a much-needed 1-1 draw.
