Reading hit the heights

Reading produced a powerful performance to beat Ipswich 3-0 at Portman Road and move above Sheffield United at the top of The Championship.
Steve Sidwell, Leroy Lita and Kevin Doyle were on target for Steve Coppell's side as they stretched their unbeaten run to 22 matches and took advantage of Sheffield United's draw at Wolves.
The Royals were always in command against a lacklustre Ipswich team, who could have no complaints about the scoreline.
Reading went on the attack from the first whistle and it was a surprise that they had to wait half an hour for their first goal.
Lita had already had a goal ruled out for offside and Lewis Price had pulled off a fine save to deny James Harper before Sidwell put the visitors in front.
James McEveley conceded possession just outside his own penalty area and although he got back to block Bobby Convey's shot the ball ran to Doyle in the area. His effort was parried by Price, but Sidwell tucked in the rebound.
Glen Little saw a volley deflected wide and Lita bent a right-foot shot just wide of goal as Reading looked to double their advantage before the break.
Former Royals striker Nicky Forster should have done better when he dragged a shot into the side-netting early in the second half, but that was as good as it got for a disappointing Ipswich.
Eight minutes after the break, Reading grabbed their second goal when Convey pulled the ball back for Lita, who struck a firm right-foot shot into the bottom corner.
Convey's dazzling run into the penalty area almost led to a third but the United States international could not find the finish to match his fine dribbling skills.
Price produced a stunning save to prevent an own goal from Jason de Vos, but Reading were not to be denied a third, which arrived when Ibrahima Sonko headed goalwards, Lita flicked on and Doyle volleyed into an empty net.
