Spicer too hot for Foxes

Burnley moved into the play-off zone after grinding out a 1-0 win at home to Leicester City.

John Spicer's goal on 40 minutes was enough to hand The Clarets a fourth consecutive success to frustrate Leicester's own play-off aspirations.

Former Foxes striker Ade Akinbiyi headed straight at Rab Douglas early on before Dion Dublin and Mark de Vries were both unsuccessful with headers at the opposite end.

The breakthrough came five minutes before the interval when Michael Duff crossed from the right for Spicer to head home at the near post.

Immediately after the goal, de Vries was denied by Clarets keeper Lee Grant, while after the break Douglas saved smartly from James O'Connor.

Grant saved from Dublin, and de Vries missed another opportunity for the visitors, who steadily exerting more pressure.

Micah Hyde had a goal disallowed after his Burnley team-mate Keith Lowe was ruled offside and Akinbiyi then struck the post.

In a frantic finish, Leicester poured forward, but Grant was agile enough to deny Elvis Hammond twice, de Vries again and Alan Maybury.
