After a dismal start to the season Norwich City gave their beleaguered fans something to cheer about with a 2-0 victory over Luton Town at Carrow Road.

Andy Hughes scored his first goal for the club after two minutes and Darren Huckerby got the second on the 25 minute mark.

Robert Green kept out an early Dean Morgan shot before Hughes gave the home side the lead after receiving a perfect pass from Dean Ashton.

Kevin Nicholls had a chance to hit back for Luton but he volleyed over, before loan signing Dickson Etuhu almost scored from a ball from another loan player David Wright.

Luton had another chance to level when Adam Drury fouled Ahmet Brkovic and from the resulting free kick Markus Heikkinen put his header wide.

Less than a minute later Luton were made to pay for their missed chances. Peter Thorne and Ashton combined well for The Canaries up front before setting up Huckerby.

Despite their 2-0 lead Norwich never looked comfortable and Steve Howard wasted three chances to get Luton back in the game. He once volleyed wide before Green pulled off two excellent saves.

Ashton also had a chance for Norwich but it was saved by Marlon Beresford.

The Hatters had other chances to make a game of it, but Heikkinen again missed a header. And they threw everything at the Norwich goal with Brkovic being denied by Green with two minutes to go.

Luton's fourth successive defeat was made even worse by the late dismissal of Russell Perrett and Nicholls.
