A dominant first half performance earned Preston North End a 2-1 win at home to Cardiff City.
Chris Sedgwick and Patrick Agyemang both scored before the break, with Glenn Loovens netting in the second period for the visitors.
Cardiff had the first real chance of the contest when Michael Ricketts thundered a shot against the crossbar after four minutes.
Darren Purse headed a corner from Jason Koumas wide as Cardiff looked to bolster their claims for a place in the play-offs.
Preston gradually came into the game and took the lead on 22 minutes when David Nugent's cross was converted by Sedgwick from close range.
By the 41st minute, it was 2-0 as Agyemang collected Paul McKenna's pass before finishing beyond Neil Alexander.
The Bluebirds grabbed a lifeline on 68 minutes when Loovens scored, but Cardiff were unable to muster another response.
