Real progress after nervy win

Real Madrid overcame a resilient Rosenborg side 2-0 to seal their progress from Group F but they were made to work hard by the Norwegians.
Wanderley Luxemburgo's side always had the edge in terms of quality but Rosenborg enjoyed vast amounts of possession and the Real defence and Iker Casillas had to be at their best to keep them out.
Rosenborg began the stronger as the visitors struggled to keep hold of the ball and they were given a scare in just the second minute when a Daniel Braathen cross almost sneaked in at the far corner.
The ever-dangerous Robinho produced the first meaningful attack by Real as he jinked his way in from the touchline before firing narrowly wide and the Brazilian and Raul combined well six minutes later but the home defence snuffed out the opening.
Rosenborg fell behind in the 26th minute through a Mikael Dorsin own goal but there was an element of luck to it.
First, Roberto Carlos could have been penalised for a handball in his own half but, seconds later, the left back played a superb 50-yard pass to Raul.
The ball was fed quickly to Guti and the midfielder slid in a fine pass to Robinho, whose cross was palmed out by Espen Johnsen straight into the backtracking Dorsin, ricocheting into the goal.
The Norwegians, who ended a disastrous domestic season on Saturday with a 1-1 draw against Tromso to finish seventh in the league, having won the title every year since 1992, responded well with a succession of corners and Dorsin nearly made amends but his left-foot volley was deflected wide by Carlos.
Oyvind Storflor tried his luck from 30 yards out but Casillas was equal to it with a low stop, though it may have been drifting wide.
But the Spanish superstars landed a killer blow four minutes before the interval when Guti doubled the advantage.
David Beckham, back from a calf strain, played in Robinho and, though the Brazilian was stopped in his tracks, Guti showed good awareness to follow up and hammer a low left-foot shot past Johnsen.
Vidar Riseth nearly pulled one back two minutes later but his header, from the home side's eighth corner of the half, flew wide from only six yards.
After the restart, the Norwegians continued to enjoy the majority of the possession and twice came close to reducing the deficit within six minutes.
Johnsen saw a downward header kept out by Casillas after Braathen created some space down the right before Dorsin again went close with a low shot from the edge of the box but the keeper was again equal to it.
Jonathan Woodgate then gave away a free-kick on the edge of the penalty area but Johnsen's attempt lacked any quality and was deflected to safety.
Guti was booked as the visitors' nerves began to fray and the Norwegians continued to press but rarely came close to pulling a goal back.
Dorsin had a couple of free-kick opportunities but his efforts were weak and wayward and Thorstein Helstad, on for Storflor, had a header blocked before Johnsen saw his rebound shot kept out by Woodgate.
After 76 minutes Alvaro Mejia won Real's first corner of the game - a reflection of their lack of possession - but Rosenborg were soon down the other end and Johnsen had a clear chance after Woodgate gave the ball away but sliced wide.
The former Leeds defender soon made amends with another block on the edge of the box from Jan Gunnar Solli and, from the resulting corner, Johnsen headed wide after a desperate scramble.
Braathen tested Casillas from 25 yards after a neat turn but the Spaniard, making his 300th appearance for the visitors, again saved well.
Injury-time brought a 14th corner for the hosts but it was cleared to safety, summing up a frustrating night for Rosenborg and the end of their Champions League hopes.
