Sambegou Bangoura scored his first goal in a Stoke City shirt to lead the Potters to a 2-0 victory over neighbours Crewe at the Britannia Stadium.

City's club-record signing marked his first start for the club with a goal shortly before the interval. Michael Duberry added a second after the break before being sent off in the closing stages.

Bangoura completed a £900,000 move from Standard Liege in August, but did not make his first appearance until the weekend because of red tape and prolonged fitness problems.

He missed two chances to put the home side ahead, blazing over from close range and then heading wide, before finally grabbing his first goal when he drove in a shot from 20 yards.

Darel Russell angled a shot just wide of the far post for the home side, before Crewe defender Steve Foster missed two headed chances to draw his side level.

Dario Gradi's men paid the price when Duberry rose to head in Russell's cross in the 65th minute and they never threatened to get back into the game.

However, Duberry was shown a straight red card for an apparent elbow on Alex substitute Pavol Suhaj in the last minute.
