Aston Villa produced a powerful second half comeback to survive a big scare at Wycombe to win 8-3.

David O'Leary's side found themselves 3-1 down at half time at The Causeway Stadium, but the Premiership outfit came storming back in the second period and hammered in seven goals to earn a 8-3 Carling Cup victory.

Nathan Tyson headed Wycombe in front after just six minutes, but Steven Davis slotted in a leveller for Villa on 14 minutes.

Roger Johnson's looping header put John Gorman's League Two side back in front just four minutes later, and Tommy Mooney's diving header six minutes before the break sent The Chairboys in 3-1 up at the interval.

O'Leary must have had harsh words for his Premiership outfit at half time and Milan Baros made it 3-2 just three minutes after half time, and James Milner's deflected effort just after the hour rubbed out Wycombe's advantage.

If the hosts looked deflated after the equaliser, they were shell-shocked five minutes later when Clint Easton put through his own net from Baros' attempted pass.

Wycombe's heads were well and truly down and Gareth Barry smashed in a 73rd minute penalty before slotting him his second five minutes later to give the score a healthy look for the visitors.

Milner added further gloss by making it 7-3 with four minutes left, and Davis added his second in the last minute to complete a remarkable second half salvo from the visitors.
