West Brom sidestepped a potential banana skin with a 4-1 win over Bradford in the Carling Cup.

Baggies boss Bryan Robson urged his side to be on their guard at The Hawthorns and they heeded the warning as they proved too strong for The Bantams.

The victory did not come at a canter, however, as The Bantams fought valiantly before wilting in the final 20 minutes.

Nathan Ellington gave West Brom the perfect start on 20 minutes when collecting a fine pass from Darren Carter and finishing with aplomb.

Diomansy Kamara went close on the half hour, with his long-range drive stinging the palms of Russell Howarth, but he found his range shortly afterwards when heading home from a Carter free kick.

Bradford's hopes were revived on the stroke of half time when Steven Schumacher turned in a cross from Darren Holloway.

The Baggies regrouped after the break and a second from Ellington on 72 and goal from Robert Earnshaw saw off the brave Bantams challenge.

The one sour note for The Baggies was the late dismissal of Martin Albrechtsen for a professional foul.
