Green & Hulse goals see off Plymouth

Derby made it seven games unbeaten as they came from behind to beat Plymouth 2-1 at Pride Park. Paul Green's second-half goal helped inflict Plymouth's first defeat in six games and keep Paul Jewell's men upwardly mobile after a slow start to the campaign. Rob Hulse cancelled out Paul Gallagher's early effort right on the stroke of half-time and Green struck the winner on 52 minutes. On-loan Blackburn striker Gallagher, who scored in Plymouth's 4-0 victory against Sheffield Wednesday prior to the international break, quickly picked up where he left off on the resumption of the Championship programme by opening the scoring after only eight minutes.

Opener

Gallacher collected Karl Duguid's pass and unleashed a ferocious shot from 25 yards that flew over Stephen Bywater's head and into the net. The goal was reward for Plymouth's strong start and Sturrock's side would have gone further ahead had Bywater not produced a fine save to keep out Rory Fallon's volley after 12 minutes. Derby were forced to make a change three minutes later when Steve Davies sustained an injury. He was replaced by Kris Commons. Miles Addison provided Derby's first shot on target in the 34th minute but his effort from the edge of the area was routinely saved by Romain Larrieu. It had looked like Gallacher's fifth goal of the season would send Plymouth into the break ahead but Hulse had other ideas.
Equaliser
A fine run from Commons saw the substitute get to the byline where he cut the ball back for Hulse, who turned 12 yards out and fired a low shot past Larrieu. Hulse's goal just before the break visibly lifted Derby and Jewell's side began the second half with vigour. Hulse headed straight at Larrieu in the 50th minute before Green put the Rams in front two minutes later. Commons' corner was cleared to the edge of the area where Green returned a shot that was tipped on to the post by Larrieu. The ball then struck the French goalkeeper and trickled over the line. Plymouth responded well to going behind and Luke Summerfield and Chris Clark both went close to scoring an equalising goal before the hour mark. But Argyle could not find the goal that would earn them a point. The closest they came was when Duguid's 12-yard shot was parried by Bywater in the 81st minute.
