Former European Cup winners Nottingham Forest will be plying their trade against the likes of Colchester and Doncaster next season, as their 2-1 defeat at QPR confirmed their relegation.

Gary Megson's side - who finished the game with ten men due to Darryl Powell's dismissal - were sunk by an own goal from John Curtis and finish from Marc Bircham.

QPR dominated proceedings and came close early on as Paul Furlong and Lee Cook both wasted good chances.

Forest's hopes of claiming a win were dealt a blow early on as Powell was dismissed on 31 minutes following a clash with Martin Rowlands.

The killer goal came in first half injury time as Curtis flicked a Lee Cook free kick into his own net.

Rowlands saw Wes Morgan clear his shot off the line as Rangers went in search of a second, which did come on 51 minutes when Bircham curled home superbly from the edge of the box.

Eugen Bopp handed Forest a lifeline when hammering home on 77 minutes, but they failed to find a second and toppled out of The Championship as a consequence.
