Millwall dealt what is likely to be a fatal blow to Sheffield United's play-off hopes with a 1-0 win at Bramall Lane.

The Blades could have closed in as Reading and West Ham tasted defeat this weekend, but an early goal from Jody Morris left their hopes in tatters.

Morris stunned the home faithful when hammering home from the edge of the box on five minutes.

The former Chelsea man could have doubled the advantage shortly afterwards, but his long-range effort flew wide.

Blades dug deep, with Michael Tonge heading wide and Steve Kabba going close from 20 yards.

Kabba went agonisingly close just before the break, while Phil Jagielka and Danny Webber were off target in a frantic finish as Millwall held on in dogged fashion.

The Blades now need a mathematical miracle to pip either Wet Ham or Reading to the play-off places, but their fans will likely have conceded they will be watching Championship football again next term.
