Ipswich moved level on points with Wigan in second place with a 5-1 mauling of relegation threatened Crewe.

Alex have not won since New Year's Day and they slipped into the relegation spots on Saturday afternoon after proving no match for Ipswich.

Goals from Shefki Kuqi, Jim Magilton, Pablo Counago and two from Tommy Miller did for Crewe who replied through David Vaughan.

Kuqi set the ball rolling on six minutes, as he slotted home with confidence after being played in by Ian Westlake.

Westlake was the architect of the second, as he set Magilton free to double the lead on 12 minutes.

Kuqi and Darren Bent could have put the result beyond doubt before the break, but their profligacy mattered little as Tommy Millar netted a fine solo effort on 51 minutes.

Crewe were a spent force and they wilted in the final ten minutes.

Miller netted his second on 81 minutes, and substitute Counago added a fifth 60 seconds later.

The one bright spot for Crewe was Vaughan's stunning long range effort, but it mattered little and they now sit in the relegation spots and in danger of being dumped into League One.
