Cardiff boosted their hopes of Championship survival with a 2-0 success over play-off chasing Reading.

Peter Thorne and Cameron Jerome did the damage for The Bluebirds at Ninian Park, as Cardiff brushed aside a tepid effort from Steve Coppell's side.

Cardiff could have taken the lead through Richard Langley in the opening stages but he fired over before, in the 12th minute, Thorne broke the game's deadlock.

New boy Neal Ardley went down the right flank and from his delivery, Thorne connected to net his 14th goal of the season.

For Reading, Paul Brooker could have converted a leveller but Neil Alexander was equal to it in Cardiff's goal.

On the half hour mark and Jerome put the game beyond the visitors, when after Reading failed to clear a corner, he was clinical in his finish to dispatch Cardiff's second.

Thorne struck a post in the second period as Reading, who have only won six games on the road all season, struggled to find any foothold in what was a costly defeat.
