Brighton picked up a priceless point after a 1-1 draw at Burnley.

Dean Hammond's second-half strike cancelled out Ade Akinbiyi's opener to end Brighton's run of five successive away defeats.

Burnley began the brighter of the two sides with Alan Blayney denying Graham Branch with a fine save.

The hosts broke the deadlock on 23 minutes with Akinbiy heading home Dean Bowditch's cross.

Michael Duff wasted a fine opportunity to double the lead when he headed a cross from Bowditch wide as Burnley continued to call the tune.

Brighton were lucky to go in half time just 1-0 down, but they came out for the second half a different team.

The visitors drew level on 52 minutes with Hammond getting on the end of Paul Reid's cross to score.

Hammond almost grabbed a second two minutes later, but he headed his effort against the crossbar.

James O'Connor almost won it for Burnley eight minutes from time when he headed substitute Lee Roche's cross wide.
