Nottingham Forest's hopes of survival were dealt a fresh blow as they were thrashed 3-0 by Plymouth.

Forest's hopes of avoiding the drop are hanging by a thread and a brace of goals by Dexter Blackstock and a strike from David Norris heaped more misery on Gary Megson.

The City Ground was stunned into silence on three minutes as woeful defending by Andy Melville and Chris Doig presented the ball to Blackstock and he rammed home from six yards to put The Pilgrims in the ascendancy.

Plymouth continued to call the shots with the only surprise being it took a further 20 minutes for them to double their advantage.

When the second came, it had more than touch of fortune as Norris' effort took a wicked deflection which took the ball over Paul Gerrard and into the net.

Forest were fleeting visitors into the Plymouth box, although Gareth Taylor headed against the bar before the break.

Hasney Aljofree came close to netting a third when his header thudded against the woodwork but Blackstock did make it 3-0 on 59 minutes when he converted following fine play from Norris.

Nick Chadwick could have added a fourth but Gerrard made a fine save, while at the other end Kris Commons was denied by Luke McCormick.
