Foxes ease away from drop zone

Leicester eased their lingering relegation fears with a 3-1 victory over Millwall at the Walkers Stadium.

Craig Levein's side remain only four points above the bottom three but after this win they are up to 15th place and they have two games in hand over most of their rivals at the foot of the table.

Richard Stearman's first career goal put them ahead early on, and after Danny Dichio levelled for the Lions, David Connolly and Mark de Vries added further goals for Leicester.

After Ian Walker kept out Paul Robinson's volley, teenage defender Stearman opened the scoring when he met Paddy McCarthy's flick on at the back post to crash home.

The Foxes then missed a succession of chances, with Jason Wilcox dragging a shot wide and Connolly firing over, before Millwall equalised mid-way through the second half, Dichio turning the ball in after Robinson had knocked down a Jody Morris corner.

Leicester quickly restored their advantage when Connolly scored from the spot after he had been tripped in the area by Matt Lawrence.

De Vries then claimed his first goal in 14 appearances for City when he headed in McCarthy's cross to make the points safe.
