Wigan maintained their lead of the top of the Championship table with a superb 4-2 win over Brighton.

The Latics jumped on The Seagulls early, who were lacking confidence following their heavy weekend defeat to Plymouth.

Jimmy Bullard's stunning strike after two minutes put the visitors ahead with Lee McCulloch's low drive doubling their lead.

Gary Teale's low shot then made it three before Jason Roberts headed The Latics four up with just 34 minutes gone.

Adam Virgo replied almost immediately, but that was the end of the scoring in an eventful first half.

The ensuring second period looked a goal drought in comparison to the first with just the one goal.

Dean Hammond headed another one back for the home side late on, but it was too little too late to get anything out of the contest.

The win keeps Wigan ahead of Sunderland on goal difference, although manager Paul Jewell may be unhappy his side failed to hang onto their early advantage.
