Cardiff's hopes of remaining in the Championship received a boost as a goal from Joe Ledley was enough to give them a 1-0 victory over Sheffield United.

The Bluebirds were able to put their financial problems to one side as they scored the only goal of the game 15 minutes from time.

Ledley managed to convert Jobi McAnuff's cross to break the deadlock in a far from inspiring encounter at Ninian Park.

It was his third goal of the campaign and helped ease the tension amongst the home fans who had seen their team win just once in their last four league outings.

The Blades failed to find their best form on their travels as their midweek FA Cup exertions against Arsenal appeared to be taking their toll.

Derek Geary fired over from long range for the visitors in a poor first half that saw the lively Peter Thorne forced off through injury.

The second half did start brightly with former York City man Lee Bullock stinging Paddy Kenny's palms in the away goal in the opening minute.

Kenny was forced into action to block Cameron Jerome's goal bound effort soon after as Cardiff took control.

However, it appeared the game was set to end in stalemate until Ledley popped up with the winner that gave the home side the spoils.
