Latics go top with win

Wigan returned to the summit of The Championship with a gritty 2-1 win at struggling Coventry.
Goals from Gary Teale and Nathan Ellington sandwiched a penalty from Gary McSheffrey to lift The Latics back above Ipswich.
The Sky Blues are battling for their lives at the foot of the table and remain dangerously placed just above the relegation spots.
Teale showed tremendous awareness to open the scoring on eight minutes, as he slammed home after a long ball bounced off Jason Roberts and into his path.
Coventry were not overawed and clawed themselves level on 22 minutes when McSheffrey slotted home from the spot after winning himself a penalty.
Jimmy Bullard, Lee McCulloch, Gareth Whalley and Ellington wasted chances to restore Wigan's lead before the break, while at the other end Trevor Benjamin hit a post and John Filan made a fantastic double save to thwart Michael Doyle and McSheffrey.
Coventry continued to create and waste openings after the break and they were made to pay for their profligacy when Ellington smashed home a superb volley 20 minutes from time to catapult Wigan to the top of the pile.
