Thompson double enough

Blackburn Rovers advanced in the FA Cup following a thrilling 3-2 victory over Cardiff City in their third round replay at Ewood Park.
David Thompson netted twice in the first half, however, Jobi McAnuff's strike in between the midfielder's brace brought The Bluebirds level.
The home side were in control after the break when Morten Gamst Pedersen scored, although Cardiff refused to lie down and pulled one back through James Collins.
The match began at a frantic pace and Rovers took a deserved lead when Paul Gallagher cleverly played in Thompson who lashed a first-time shot past Tony Warner.
Despite creating the better of the chances it was Cardiff who scored next with Richard Langley creating the opening for McAnuff to drive home with his left foot past Brad Friedel.
Thompson's second had a massive stroke of fortune about it with his lofted cross missing Gallagher in the middle only for the ball to bounce over Warner's hand and into the net.
The contest looked over minutes after the interval when Gamst Pedersen connected with Thompson's cross to the back post to score past Warner.
However, the visitors refused to let the game slip through their fingers and pulled a goal back through young defender Collins.
The stopper was initially denied from close range with his header from Graham Kavanagh's free kick, but he picked himself up to stab home the rebound.
Cardiff were the better side for the remainder of the half but were unable to beat Friedel, who made a number of crucial stops to ensure Rovers play Colchester in the next round.
