Keeper error boosts Black Cats

Sunderland capitalised on another mistake from veteran keeper Kevin Pressman to take all three points from a 1-0 success at the Walkers Stadium.

Pressman, who slipped to allow Preston keeper Andy Lonergan to score with a kick from his own penalty area and then allowed Jon Otsemobor's hopeful shot squirm under his body to give Crewe a 2-2 draw, let Stephen Caldwell's close range header slip from his grasp in the 69th minute.

Leicester had made a bright start under new manager Craig Levein, beating Coventry convincingly on Monday, but a combination of Pressman's error and fine keeping from Thomas Myhre ended their six-match unbeaten home run.

Myhre did well to save Keith Gillespie's angled volley after just 40 seconds and made further saves to deny James Scowcroft and Danny Tiatto.

The Sunderland keeper then kept out two shots from David Connolly in the closing seconds to protect his side's slender advantage.

Pressman saved well to deny Stephen Elliott prior to his blunder mid-way through the second half, but there was little he could have done to keep out a Chris Brown drive which crashed off the crossbar.

The former Sheffield Wednesday keeper also did well to keep out efforts from Marcus Stewart and an Elliott header.
