Werder out-class Les Mauves

A domineering display from Werder Bremen saw them destroy Anderlecht 5-1 at The Weserstadion.
A brilliant double salvo from Croatian Ivan Klasnic in the opening 17 minutes gave Werder a 2-0 lead before Oleg Iachtchouck pulled one back for the visitors.
Werder's two-goal advantage was restored just before half time when Miroslav Klose converted Johan Micoud's cross.
Klasnic then completed his hat-trick late on with again Micoud the creator and Dane Daniel Jensen sealed the rout in the final minute with a nice finish..
Werder started in wonderful fashion as Klasnic volleyed home from the edge of the area after Jensen poked the ball on to him and the Croat twisted and beat Tristan Peersman at his near post.
Anderlecht were really struggling to get into the game and Klose had an effort wrongly ruled out for offside just moments later.
Klasnic almost registered his second with a cross-come-shot, which forced Peersman to back-track and tip over.
The home side, though, continued to pressure Les Mauves and it was not long before they doubled their tally.
The second came from a corner and it was Klasnic again as he rose majestically to head home Johan Micoud's cross.
Walter Baseggio was doing his best to try and inspire his side and he saw a shot deflect wide as Anderlecht conjured their first attack of the game.
Baseggio then helped his side back into the game as his set piece was flicked home by Iachtchouck on the half hour.
The goal was barely deserved but gave Anderlecht some hope, although that was short lived.
The ubiquitous Micoud again terrorised the defence before playing a wonderful ball across the box for Klose who fired in off the legs of Peersman.
It could have easily been worse before half time as Valerien Ismael fired a free kick just inches wide of the post.
Werder started the second half well, and Ismael came close as he fired a 25-yard effort wide of the post.
Ludovic Magnin should have done better from the edge of the area after great work from Paul Stalteri, but he could only hammer the ball over the bar.
Anderlecht were lacking ideas and they could not live with the pace of Werder's play.
When the visitors did manage a break, they were cut down in their tracks. Aruna Dindane has a decent chance 20 minutes from time, but the influential Ismael worked back hard to block and clear.
With 12 minutes remaining Klasnic claimed the hat-trick he deserved for his great play. Again it was tormentor in-chief Micoud who created the chance as he broke down the right and crossed into the box for Klasnic to fire home from close range.
Anderlecht did force a great double save from Andreas Reinke late on as he parried from Christian Wilhlemsson and then held Iachtchouck's effort - but it was far too little far too late as the Belgians bowed out of this season's UEFA Champions League.
There was still time for Werder to add another as substitute Nelson Haedo Valdez picked out Daniel Jensen on the edge of the area and he slotted him to hammer home the final nail in Anderlecht's coffin.
While Anderlecht now look towards a Uefa Cup spot, although that looks highly unlikely, Werder Bremen look well on course for the second phase.
