Coventry will hope to put their midweek Carling Cup defeat at Middlesbrough as they take on a Reading side looking to go level with league leaders Wigan on Saturday.

The Royals are currently three points behind Wigan - who do not play until Sunday - and although vastly inferior goal difference makes it unlikely they will take top spot, Steve Coppell will be looking to put pressure on the leaders.

Coventry left Stern John out of the midweek defeat and the striker is expected to be restored to the starting line-up.

Steve Staunton has served his suspension following his red card at Wigan and Rohan Ricketts is available again after the League Cup defeat.

Claus Jorgensen has a rib injury and faces a late test if he is to make the match-day squad, while Tim Sherwood is not expected to return, with the club choosing to rest the player as he battles the long-term effects of his lengthy lay off from a broken leg.

Reading's top scorer Dave Kitson hurt a hip this week, but is not expected to miss out and Adie Williams is back to fitness and could be in contention.

Shaun Goater is out for a month with a calf problem, and Nicky Forster (groin) is also ruled out, meaning Lloyd Owusu is expected to continue up front.

Paul Brooker is also fit again and could make the squad after his groin problem.
