Duke double beats Crewe

Nathan Ellington scored twice as Championship leaders Wigan beat Crewe 4-1.

Lee McCulloch and Jimmy Bullard also scored for Paul Jewell's side, who are now three points clear of second-place Reading.

Ellington was a threat from the start and drew an outstanding point-blank block from Crewe keeper Ben Williams. Billy Jones then resorted to dragging the striker down and, from Bullard's resulting free kick, McCulloch headed home at the far post.

On 25 minutes, Ellington accelerated away from Richard Walker to meet a David Graham pass and double Wigan's lead with his ninth goal of the season.

Just after half time, he moved into double figures with a powerful shot from the edge of the box after Crewe only half-cleared Graham's cross.

Steve Jones then gave the visitors a lifeline when he volleyed in a pass from captain Kenny Lunt.

But Bullard capped Wigan's win with a 25-yard shot that found the top corner of Williams's net.
