Adriano stars in Inter win

Internazionale swept to a majestic 3-1 victory over Anderlecht in Belgium, with striker Adriano showing just why he is being compared to compatriot Ronaldo.
Adriano was at the heart of nearly everything that Inter produced, as they crushed a mediocre Anderlecht side, setting up the first for Obafemi Martins and scoring the second with a towering header, before a fine Dejan Stankovic strike wrapped up Inter's scoring.
Walter Baseggio got a consolation for Anderlecht with the final kick of the game, but it did little to lift the disappointed Belgian crowd.
Inter had dominated the first half and were more than good value for their lead at the break.
Martins should have given his side an early lead, when a dreadful throw out from Tristan Peersman in the Anderlecht goal struck the striker on the back.
Martins turned quickly, but with the goal at his mercy shot wide to the dismay of his team-mates.
However the sprightly forward made amends with the opener, when striker partner Adriano escaped down the left and played in a perfect low cross that Martins merely had to slide into the back of the net.
Christian Wilhelmson was looking lively down the left flank for the Belgian side, but his swan dive in the box was rightly treated with disdain by referee Kyros Vassaras.
Aruna Dindane had been the more energetic of the Anderlecht forwards, but was guilty of a terrible miss when he powered his header well wide after Mbo Mpenza's pin-point cross had found him unmarked just eight yards out.
Wilhelmson had a goal-bound volley well-blocked by Ze Maria with Anthony Vanden Borre's follow up deflected narrowly wide.
If Anderlecht's fans thought that the second half would bring a more committed display from their side they were soon disappointed.
Just six minutes had passed after the break when Juan Sebastian Veron - looking an entirely different player that the one that left English football in the summer - curled in a lovely corner that Adriano powered in off the post to double the Italians' advantage.
Soon after it was three, Veron picking out Stankovic, who took just one touch before unleashing an unstoppable low shot from 20 yards that left Peersman no chance.
Anderlecht nearly got one back, when Dindane's deflected shot spun over the despairing Toldo, but struck the upright.
The ball was played back into Mpenza, lurking at the back post, but he fired wide when he should have hit the target.
Toldo then produced a point blank stop to deny Baseggio who had drifted in at the back post.
Baseggio did get a consolation - with the last kick off the game, his accurate effort leaving the impressive Toldo little chance.
Inter had taken their foot off the pedal - but they had done more than enough to coast in to a well deserved victory.
