Honours even at Deepdale

Plymouth made sure they didn't return from their long trip to Preston empty handed as they secured a 1-1 draw at Deepdale.

The match was Billy Davies first game since being handed the Lilywhites job on a permanent basis, but he was left frustrated as his players failed to capitalise on their dominance and gave away a sloppy goal from a set-piece.

After winning four of their last six games, hopes were high for the home side but some wasteful finishing cost them dear.

Preston bossed the opening exchanges and loan signing Guylain Ndumbu-Nsungu came close to grabbing a goal on his debut as he looked to show Davies he was worth recruiting on a permanent basis.

However their early pressure counted for nothing and they were left stunned on 19 minutes when Mathias Doumbe, recalled by boss Bobby Williamson, headed home a left wing corner from the impressive Lee Makel.

The goal clearly boosted Argyle's confidence and they made sure the score remained the same with some rock-solid defending.

They could have even gone further ahead but both Micky Adams and Stevie Crawford wasted good chances to double their advantage.

It appeared there was little way back into the contest for the home team until Richard Cresswell struck just after the hour mark to give both sides a point apiece.
