Saints breeze past Cobblers

Southampton safely progressed into the third round of the Carling Cup with a 3-0 win at Northampton Town.
Goals from Kevin Phillips, David Prutton and Neil McCann secured an easy victory over Colin Calderwood's League Two side.
On a good looking Sixfields Stadium pitch, both sides stroked the ball around and looked to create chances.
Northampton striker Scott McGleish had a sliding effort sail over the bar while Jelle van Damme shot woefully wide moments later for The Saints.
But the Premiership club's class started to tell and just after the half hour mark, Steve Wigley's side took the lead.
Mikael Nilsson's fine right foot cross found the onrushing Phillips to score right footed for a 1-0 lead to the visitors.
Three minutes later, The Saints doubled their lead when Prutton chested down a Cobblers clearance out of their box before volleying home a sweet strike past Northampton's on-loan keeper Paul Rachubka.
The goals settled the South Coast club down and they registered a third mid-way through the second half when McCann latched on to Phillips's through ball before scoring with a right foot strike.
The Cobblers never looked like coming back into the tie and Southampton now enter the draw for the third round.
