The visitors added a second after the half-hour mark when Rob Edwards picked out Ryan Harley who stroked home a low left-footed shot from the edge of the box.
Veteran Mac striker Simon Yeo handed the home side a lifeline on the stroke of half-time with his fourth goal of the season.
But Exeter responded three minutes after the break when Harley threaded the ball over to Stansfield who flicked home from the six-yard line.
Martin Gritton and Yeo both hit the crossbar for the Silkmen in the dying stages but Exeter added another late on through skipper Gill.
